Why board & train plus private training works.
And why in-home training and group classes so often fall short.
Training should change your life with your dog, not turn into an endless cycle of drills. That’s why I pair board and train with private training. It works for owners in Huntington, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, and the surrounding area.
1. The best of both
Your dog trains with me first. Then you learn to keep it going. Private sessions after your dog comes home help you build on the progress, so you’re never left on your own.
2. Off-leash control
Imagine a trail walk, a day at the park, or the backyard, with no leash and no worry. My programs focus on off-leash control, because it isn’t just convenient. It’s what keeps your dog safe. Many programs stop at leash manners. I go further, so your dog listens in distracting places too.
3. It’s not about location. It’s about respect.
Many owners think home problems have to be trained at home. Barking at the doorbell, for example. But location doesn’t matter. Respect does.
The root issue is the same everywhere: your dog is ignoring your rules. Once your dog respects you and understands the boundaries, behaviors like door barking and bolting resolve. As I put it on the Programs page: gain your dog’s respect and they’ll listen to you anywhere.
4. Progress you can see
When you see real change in your dog, you want to keep going. It’s like the gym: visible progress keeps you motivated. Clear results at pick-up make it easy to stay consistent at home.
5. No chore-like training
Many programs expect an hour of drills every day. Families can’t keep that up, and when the drills stop, the behavior slips. My approach fits into daily life. You reinforce commands as they come up, without setting aside extra training time.
6. No “pseudo control”
Many programs produce what I call pseudo control. Your dog listens for a treat, or inside the house, then ignores you at a busy park or an open door. Real control means your dog listens because they respect you, not because of food or a leash.
Where I work
I’m based at 2574 E 300 N in Huntington, Indiana. Visits are by appointment only. Owners come from Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, and across the surrounding area, and board and train only takes two trips: drop-off and pick-up.
